Germany's Merck KGaA (MRK.XE) said on Thursday that it acquired U.S. company FloDesign Sonics.

FloDesign Sonics provides technology that enables the manipulation of cells with ultrasonic waves and that is used in cell and gene therapy manufacturing, pharmaceutical company Merck said.

The "acquisition is a strategic fit for Merck, strengthening the ability alongside pharmaceutical manufacturers to advance cell-based therapies to patients," the company said.

The company didn't comment on the financial details of the deal.
