ADRs End Lower; NuCana, Iberdrola Among Companies Actively Traded

International stocks trading in New York finished Wednesday
lower. The S&P/BNY Mellon index of American depositary receipts
fell 0.3% to 159.61. The European index slipped 0.02% to 140.90.
The Asian index declined 0.8% to 215.70. And the emerging-markets
index fell 0.7% to 350.99. Only the Latin American index rose 0.6%
to 186.22.
ADRs of NuCana PLC rose 17% on Wednesday after the company said
the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted Fast Track
designation to Acelarin NUC-1031, currently being evaluated in a
Phase III study for the first-line treatment of patients with
advanced biliary-tract cancer.
Iberdrola SA's ADRs, which trade over the counter, fell 1.4%
after the company said it has halted investments in renewables
projects in Spain after the country's government adopted a series
of measures aimed at curbing energy bills for consumers, the
company told The Wall Street Journal Wednesday.
The announcement comes just weeks after the Spanish government
passed a decree that will effectively enable it to claim back 2.6
billion euros ($3.04 billion) by the end of March next year from
energy companies that are profiting from soaring gas prices.
SSE PLC's ADRs, which trade over the counter, slipped 0.5% after
the Scotland-based energy company said Wednesday that it has signed
a deal to enter the Japanese offshore-wind market, and forecast
lower adjusted earnings per share for the first half of the fiscal
year.
