U.K. energy regulator Ofgem is investigating whether SSE Generation Ltd. and EP SHB Ltd. submitted excessively expensive bid prices at times when they were required to reduce power generation.

Ofgem said it will examine whether both companies failed to comply with power-constraints rules.

The regulation requires that generators ensure that the prices at which they are willing to reduce output are not excessively expensive. The system operator can instruct power plants to lower generation in order to manage transmission constraints, which refer to the grid's ability to transmit electricity to where demand is situated.
