--The Bureau of Land Management renewed two mineral leases near a popular wilderness area in Minnesota, saying it strengthens national security by increasing domestic production of "critical minerals," Reuters reports Wednesday.

--The leases, which are close to the Boundary Waters Wilderness area, were given to Twin Metals Minnesota LLC, which is a subsidiary of Chilean miner Antofagasta, the report said.

--"Mining strategic metals in the United States is beneficial to national security, national and local economies, and job creation," Interior Dept. assistant secretary Joe Balash said, according to the report.
