Bacanora Lithium PLC (BCN.LN) shares leapt Thursday after a press report suggested that Southern Copper Corp. (SCCO.VL) was considering an investment in a Mexican lithium project.

A story published by Reuters reported that Southern Copper CEO Oscar Gonzalez said his company had visited a lithium project in the Mexican state of Sonora, which is where Bacanora Lithium owns a number of concessions.

Reuters reported that Mr. Gonzalez couldn't remember the name of the company in Sonora.

The London-listed company didn't comment on the reports. It said it remains focused on securing the full funding of $460 million for the Sonora lithium project in Mexico in the second quarter of 2019 and is in discussions with a number of potential cornerstone investors as part of that process.

Shares at 1118 GMT were up 33% at 23.25 pence.
