Dignity Welcomes HM Treasury proposals for FCA regulation of the funeral plan sector

Dignity plc (Dignity or the Group), the UK's only listed provider of funeral related services, welcomes the announcement from HM Treasury regarding its decision to introduce statutory regulation of pre-arranged funerals through the Financial Conduct Authority.

For many years Dignity has led calls for regulation and its research, published together with Fairer Finance, has highlighted the poor sales practices and financial management risks that certain providers engage in.

Mike McCollum, Chief Executive of Dignity plc, commented:

"Dignity has long led the industry in best practice and has called for regulation of the pre-paid funeral plan sector to protect consumers. We are pleased that HM Treasury has taken this decision and, during the transition period, will continue to deliver the high standards of selling and administration of pre-arranged funeral plans that we already provide."
