                   Autumn/Winter 1999/2000 Trading Statement

Oasis Stores Plc today announces its sales performance for the 24 week period
to 15 January 2000.

Oasis
Total sales for the period were up by 12% and like-for-like sales were flat
against the same period last year. However, the eight weeks to Christmas were
weaker than earlier in the period.

Coast
Total sales increased by 15%, with an underlying like-for-like increase of 2%.
This performance was under management's forecast.

As a result, pre-tax profits for the full year to 29 January 2000 are expected
to be below market expectations.

Our Sale, which again commenced after Christmas, has progressed well and the
Company will enter the new season with a clean stock position.

The Company has not experienced any problems relating to the Year 2000 issue
and all its systems are operating normally.

Oasis will announce its preliminary results for the year to January 2000 on 5
April 2000.
