J Sainsbury PLC (SBRY.LN) said on Wednesday that it has appointed Martin Scicluna as its new nonexecutive chairman to replace current chairman David Tyler.

The U.K. supermarket said Mr. Scicluna will join its board as chairman-designate and a nonexecutive director from Nov. 1.

Mr. Scicluna will work closely with Mr. Tyler for a handover period and Sainsbury's said it expects him to take over as chairman from the beginning of the new financial year in March 2019.
