    South China Resources PLC ('SCR' or 'the Company')
    Notice of EGM

    South China Resources gives notice that an Extraordinary General Meeting ('EGM') of the Company is to be held on 1st September 2008 at
10.00 a.m. at 38 Jermyn Street, Princes House, 1st Floor, Suite 1b, London, SW1Y 6DN. Notice of the EGM is being posted to shareholders
today.  

    The special business to be proposed at the EGM is to: 

    *     Renew the Board's authority to allot relevant securities:
                            (i)    Up to a nominal amount of �2,000,000; 
    (ii)   As if statutory pre-emption rights did not apply to any such allotments up to a nominal
       amount of �2,000,000; and
    (iii)  Other than pursuant to (i) and (ii) above, in connection with the issue by the Company of 
       the convertible unsecured loan note of �390,000 to Aguas Kalama Ltd and the conversion 
       thereof,

    *     To provide the Company with sufficient capacity to allot further shares to, inter alia, complete the transactions described in the
Introduction and raise further finances for the Company if the Directors consider this appropriate for those transactions or working capital
requirements or otherwise and in the best interests of the Company

    *     Change the name of the Company to "Universal Coal plc"

    *     To adopt new Articles of Association of the Company

    The Circular containing the Notice of the EGM has been posted to shareholders today. Copies of these documents will also be made
available today on the Company's website www.southchinaresources.com.
