Energy Resources Says Heap Leach Requires Environment Review

Dow Jones News
Energy Resources of Australia Ltd. (ERA.AU) said Tuesday it has
been advised by the Northern Territory Government that a planned
heap leach development at its Ranger uranium mine will require
formal environmental assessment.
The Rio Tinto Ltd. (RIO.AU) subsidiary said Northern Territory
Minister for Natural Resources, Environment, the Arts and Sports
Alison Anderson has advised it the project will need formal
assessment at the level of an environmental impact statement.
This follows a decision by the Federal Government last month
that the heap leach project was a controlled action under the
Environmental Protection & Biodiversity Conservation Act and
would require further environmental assessment.
Chief Executive Officer Rob Atkinson has said in the past he
believes the heap leach operation will be clean and safe and he is
confident it will win environmental approval.
