Italy's industry minister will meet with the head of French power giant Electricity de France SA (EDF.FR) next week to review the progress of talks on the future of Edison SpA (EDN.MI), the second biggest electricity and natural gas utility by volume in Italy.

Industry Minister Paolo Romani will meet EDF Chief Executive Henri Proglio in the town of Brescia, in northern Italy, on Sept. 23, MF-Dow Jones reported Thursday. The head office of A2A SpA's (A2A.MI) supervisory board is in Brescia. A2A is a shareholder of Edison.

Romani has already discussed Edison with Proglio at a meeting in Milan on Sept. 5.

EDF has been in talks with A2A and other Edison shareholders on how best to dissolve the utility and separate its assets.

Early this year, it reached a preliminary agreement with A2A that would have allowed the French utility to take control of Edison and let A2A acquire some hydroelectric assets. But the agreement was botched by the Italian government, forcing them to renew talks to find another solution.
