Italian Industry Minister Corrado Passera said Thursday there
are no plans to merge the country's two biggest energy grids, Snam
SpA (SRG.MI) and Terna SpA (TRN.MI), after speculation the
government might be keen to create such a sector behemoth.
The hypothesis of a merger between Snam and Terna "is a
possibility that as of today has never been taken into
consideration," Passera said on the sidelines of a conference in
Rome.
Snam is Italy's biggest natural gas transmission company by
pipelines, while Terna is the biggest electricity grid by
lines.
Both companies are controlled by the Italian government.
