FRANKFURT--Air Berlin PLC said Sunday it will buy 14 Airbus
Group NV planes from Alitalia as part of a plan to replace Boeing
Co. jets.
The A320 planes are "young" but already in use by the Italian
carrier, said Air Berlin spokesman Aage Duenhaupt. He declined to
give the price. Air Berlin will get the jets soon.
Air Berlin will resell the aircraft to leasing companies and
lease them back. It hasn't signed contracts with leasing firms yet,
Mr. Duenhaupt said.
Air Berlin and Alitalia are partner airlines. Their joint parent
Etihad Airways of Abu Dhabi owns 29% of Air Berlin and 49% of
Alitalia.
