MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.,
March 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/
-- Omnicell, Inc., (NASDAQ: OMCL), today announced the
availability of the web-based Find-A-Pharmacy tool, which helps
connect consumers and their families with pharmacists committed to
improving the health of their patients through better medication
adherence. By offering SureMed® by Omnicell®
multiple medication adherence blister cards, pharmacists are
helping patients greatly reduce the complexities of managing and
taking multiple medications daily. Currently over one million
people use SureMed to help successfully remain in compliance with
physician-recommended therapy. The SureMed blister cards organize
complex medication regimens by time of day and day of the week,
making it easy for patients to know what to take and when.
More than 30 million Americans take multiple medications on a
daily basis and many find great difficulty in remaining
adherenti. The Find-A-Pharmacy tool connects patients to
the nearest pharmacy that offers SureMed multimed blister cards,
providing access to resources that help address the challenges of
medication adherence.
Non-adherence costs the U.S. health care system over
$105 billion annually, emphasizing
the vital need to forge this connection in combatting this public
health issueii. In an era of coordinated care, patients
must rely on both their primary care physicians and pharmacists to
ensure proper adherence to recommended therapies. The FAME Study
demonstrated that Omnicell multimed adherence packaging has a
significant impact on adherence and clinical outcomes, when used as
part of a comprehensive pharmacy care programiii.
Pharmacists are uniquely suited to engage with patients and confirm
their adherence each month at the point of refilling.
The Find-A-Pharmacy tool has been integrated into the Omnicell
website to offer a convenient source for consumers to connect with
pharmacies committed to medication adherence packaging solutions.
At launch, Find-A-Pharmacy will include over 900 physical and
mail-order pharmacies across 49 states. As a pharmacy resource, the
platform effectively brings the patient to a pharmacy that offers
an adherence program. This tool will likely enable pharmacies to
strengthen their customer loyalty based on quality care and improve
patient outcomes through effective medication adherence
solutions.
"As an independent pharmacy chain that takes pride in our
dedication to our customers, our priority is to provide resources
that position the patient to improve their health," says
Alpesh Patel, R.Ph, president,
Benzer Pharmacy. "At Benzer, our passion is working directly with
each patient and forming a personal relationship as we help them
accomplish their clinical goals of adherence and easier medication
management. Our greatest reward is seeing customers come back every
month to work with our pharmacists to stay healthy and independent.
As we expand to over 20 states this year, the Find-A-Pharmacy tool
lets patients and families looking for adherence solutions and
pharmacist support know we're in their area."
"Pharmacists play an integral role in the lives of patients when
it comes to adherence; they speak directly to the patient about
medication regimens, they build a relationship with these patients,
and also provide physical tools that support medication adherence,
such as the SureMed blister cards," says Troy Hilsenroth, vice president and general
manager, Medication Adherence Division of Omnicell. "The Omnicell
Find-A-Pharmacy platform showcases and supports the pharmacies that
are committed to providing the best possible care to their patients
by implementing tools that will promote adherence once they leave
the pharmacy. By providing the nearest location of adherence
pharmacies, consumers will have access to the resources they need
to improve their own health."
