PLX Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq:PLXT), the leading supplier of PCI
Express(TM) (PCIe) and other standard input/output (I/O)
interconnect silicon, today announced further penetration of its
PCIe technology in the system-backplane market, as its PCIe
interconnect technology has been designed into a range of backplane
boards from SBS Technologies(R) (Nasdaq:SBSE). SBS's Telum(TM)
family of AdvancedTCA (ATCA) and Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC)
networking and communications boards now features PLX(R)
ExpressLane(TM) PCIe switching and bridging devices, providing the
Telum boards with the versatile, high-speed PCIe serial
interconnect now being deployed in virtually all market segments.
This development reflects the strategic success both PLX and SBS
have had in bringing PCIe to the rapidly growing ATCA and AMC
markets. Backplanes the PCIe-enabled Telum products address are
critical elements in systems supporting advanced networking and
communications applications. Market Penetration, Match of
Companies' Leadership "As PCI Express continues its rapid
penetration in strategic markets such as backplanes, PLX is
cementing its position as the leading supplier of PCI Express
interconnect silicon to board makers addressing those markets,"
said David Raun, PLX vice president of marketing. "Today's
announcement with SBS illustrates both companies' commitment to PCI
Express, as well as the interconnect standard's significance in
backplane designs. Furthermore, it illustrates how the SBS Telum
boards using PLX switching and bridging devices are making optimal
use of some of the key features of PCI Express -- speed,
flexibility and reliability." "PLX and SBS Technologies are premier
names in their respective markets -- PLX in interconnect solutions
and SBS in embedded-computing technology -- so it was natural we'd
select PLX for our PCI Express needs as we apply this powerful
interconnect technology to the AMC and ATCA markets," said Dave
Greig, president and chief operating officer of SBS Technologies.
"PLX's PCI Express bridges and switches bring a level of
performance, flexibility and reliability to the Telum family that
our edge-product and enterprise-system customers demand." Smooth
Migration, Variety of Applications In implementing the ExpressLane
devices into the Telum line, SBS was able to leverage its legacy
PCI designs and take advantage of PLX's ability to provide a smooth
migration from PCI to PCIe. This ease of migration both saved SBS
design resources and improved the boards' time to market. To find
