Doria, general manager, YanFeng Visteon Electronics, was one of six
individuals and teams recognized with Summit Awards by Visteon
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Peter J. Pestillo and
President and Chief Operating Officer Michael F. Johnston. Doria
was honored for leading a modernization plan that improved product
quality, process flow, lean manufacturing processes, and material
and product control at the plant, which supplies electronics for
audio systems and other vehicle applications. Implemented in
September 2003, the modernization helped enhance product quality
and expand Visteon's electronics business in China. Doria was
chosen from among 46 individuals and teams, representing eight
countries, who received quarterly awards for outstanding
performance in 2003 under Visteon's Leading the Way Recognition
program. "Visteon is committed to establishing a collaborative,
performance-driven culture in which we recognize and celebrate the
success of individuals and teams achieving breakthrough
performance," Pestillo said. "I am very proud of Visteon's first
Summit Award winners. It was no easy task selecting just six
winners, as each of the nominees demonstrated exemplary
performance." Johnston said the achievements ofthe Summit Award
winners represent the "best of the best" of Visteon's
accomplishments in 2003. "Alfeu Doria and all of our Summit Award
winners demonstrate the energy, perseverance and ability to execute
that will be hallmarks of Visteon's future success," he noted.
Doria, a 21-year veteran of the auto industry, joined YanFeng
Visteon Electronics in January 2002, after serving as a manager at
Visteon's Arbor Plant in Sao Paulo, Brazil. When Doria joined
YanFeng Visteon Electronics, the plant produced mainly audio
amplifiers and had a small customer base. Doria led Visteon staff
engineers in a detailed review of the plant's operating practices
to improve the facility's layout, production efficiency and product
quality. "We needed to modernize to be able to compete with other
Tier 1 suppliers and win new business," Doria said. After
benchmarking the best automotive electronics assembly practices
inside and outside of Visteon, the YanFeng Visteon Electronics team
installed electrostatic discharge protection to ensure high product
quality, implemented an all-new manufacturing process flow, and
improved lean manufacturing practices throughout the plant.
Spending less than $1 million on new equipment, Doria helped boost
employee pride and convince YanFeng Electronics employees that the
plant could compete with the best plants in the world. As a result
of Doria's efforts, YanFeng Visteon Electronics has significantly
improved its product quality and expanded its customer base to
include DaimlerChrysler, Fiat, Ford, Jaguar, Mazda, Shanghai
General Motors and Suzuki. YanFeng Visteon Electronics received a
Gold Excellence Supply Award from Ford in 2003. YanFeng Visteon
Electronics was formed in 1994. It is 70 percent owned by Visteon
and 30 percent by Shanghai Automotive Industrial Corporation, an
auto manufacturer based in China. The plant has about 500
employees. Visteon Corporation is a leading full-service supplier
that delivers consumer-driven technology solutions to automotive
manufacturers worldwide and through multiple channels within the
global automotive aftermarket. Visteon has approximately 72,000
employees and a global delivery system of more than 200 technical,
manufacturing, sales and service facilities located in 25
