ASCO INDIANAPOLIS, May 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- "This is Not a
Dress Rehearsal," "More Than a Statistic," "Why Me?" The voices of
people affected by cancer will be represented in art and narrative
at an exhibit featuring selected winners of the 2006 Lilly Oncology
on Canvas Expressions of a Cancer Journey Art Competition and
Exhibition. The art will be on display in the Lilly booth at the
44th Annual American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in
Chicago, May 30 - June 3, in time for National Cancer Survivors
Day, June 1. Eli Lilly and Company, in partnership with the
National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS), presents
Oncology on Canvas as a way to pay tribute to the cancer journeys
of all those affected by cancer. The program was launched in 2004
and has resulted in two competitions, nearly 2,500 pieces of art,
and more than 600 exhibitions around the world. Oncology on Canvas
is accepting entries from the U.S. and Puerto Rico for its third
competition until July 15, 2008. "What better way to honor those
affected by cancer than by showcasing an inspiring collection of
art at the world's premier oncology meeting, coinciding with
National Cancer Survivors Day," said Ellen Stovall, president and
chief executive officer of NCCS. ASCO attracts more than 30,000
oncology professionals around the world. Created in 1987, National
Cancer Survivors Day was created to honor all those that have been
affected by cancer. "NCCS has always maintained that a person is a
survivor from the moment they are diagnosed with cancer," added Ms.
Stovall. "Oncology on Canvas puts survivorship in the spotlight,
highlighting what it means to live with cancer, and providing hope
and inspiration to all." 2008 Competition Still Accepting Entries
The 2008 competition invites U.S. and Puerto Rico residents who
have been diagnosed with cancer, their health care providers,
family members, friends and caregivers, to express visually, and in
narrative, the many emotions and experiences that define the cancer
journey. "While ASCO spotlights the achievements of cancer
researchers and leaders at the forefront of medical science,
Oncology on Canvas reminds us of the power of the human spirit to
move forward and heal," said Richard Gaynor, M.D., vice president,
cancer research and global oncology platform leader for Lilly. All
entries for the 2008 competition must be received by the Art
Director no later than July 15, 2008. Entries must be original
works of art, presented in one of six different mediums: oil;
watercolor; acrylic; photography; pastel; and mixed media (any
other type of one-dimensional art). Submissions must be at least
12" x 12" and no larger than 17" x 26". There are three participant
categories in the competition: person diagnosed with cancer; health
care professional (e.g., doctor, nurse, pharmacist, lab technician,
etc.); and family member, friend or caregiver. For more information
