Dow Jones News
BMO Capital Markets, the investment and corporate banking unit
of BMO Financial Group (BMO), hired five senior professionals who
worked at rivals, including J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (JPM) and
Bank of America Corp. (BAC), as the firm continues to build up its
presence in the U.S.
BMO has hired 450 new employees worldwide since last year, with
112 joining in the U.S. The addition of the five new professionals,
all new positions, comes a few months after BMO hired Lehman
(LEHMQ) veteran Perry Hoffmeister as head of U.S. investment and
corporate banking.
Among the recent new hires, Alexander "Sandy" Ayer joined BMO
after working at J.P. Morgan as a managing director in the Mergers
and Acquisitions group. Ayer, who reports to Scott Humphrey, head
of U.S. M&A, is a 16-year veteran, who has worked on public and
private mergers, acquisitions and restructurings.
Noam Cohen, based in New York, was hired from Merrill Lynch, and
will oversee the firm's non-food retailing division. He reports to
Greg Pearlman, head of the food, consumer & retail group. Cohen
has more than 23 years of investment banking experience, 18 of them
focused on the retail industry.
Other new hires include Les Gorman, who will serve on the U.S.
investment & corporate banking management committee. Gorman
previously worked at Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., where he
focused on clients in the global media, business services and
telecommunications sectors.
Additionally, Paul Griffin will lead BMO's software investment
banking efforts, reporting to Susan Wolford, head of the business
services & media group. Griffin was previously a managing
director and head of software investment banking at Cowen & Co.
(COWN).
David Parrot, a 20-year industry veteran, joined BMO as a
managing director in the healthcare team. Parrot, who was
previously one of the founding members of Piper Jaffray Cos.' (PJC)
biopharmaceuticals investment banking group, will report to Michael
Neuberger, head of the Healthcare group.
