CRC GROUP PLC ("the Group")
CHAIRMAN'S AGM STATEMENT
At its Annual General Meeting held this morning, David Ryan, Chairman said:
"The Directors report that the Home Gateway and IT markets are performing in
line with expectations delivering excellent service to customers, however the
personal communications market is at present performing below expectations.
Overall, the Directors report that the Group is trading marginally below current
expectations.
The lower than expected performance for 2003 in the personal communications
market is the result of lower "pass through" sales of spare parts and warranty
claims. These sales are traditionally at lower margins, therefore the impact on
overall Group sales will produce a less than proportionate impact on profit. The
volume of and income from repairs to personal communications products conducted
in the CRC factories is not affected by the reduction in the pass through sales.
In 2003 the Group will continue to search for opportunities to win outsourcing
contracts in all the markets we serve, and we are confident that we will be able
to report further new business wins as the year progresses. CRC has already won
an important new contract to provide repair services to a leading blue chip
European mobile phone retailer. In addition, CRC's relationship with Nokia has
been further strengthened by securing a new revenue stream for the supply of
specialised second line support services to Nokia's business application
business unit. This specialist support line will provide a technical centre of
excellence for Nokia's enterprise dealers and resellers. Furthermore, Nokia has
confirmed that CRC will be carrying out significant mobile phone recycling
activities at its Polish plant as part of Nokia's commitment to achieving world
class environmental performance."
The Board has confirmed the appointment of David Ryan as non-Executive Chairman.
The Board expresses its thanks to Dr Michael Peagram, who retires as
non-Executive Chairman, for his significant contribution to the CRC Group.
