OTTAWA, April 23, 2019 /CNW/ - Clearford Water Systems
Inc. ("Clearford" or the "Company"), (TSXV: CLI), today announced
that it has signed a contract with the Anarde Foundation to install
the Clearford One™ system in the village of Plot Pada,
located northeast of Vasai, Maharashtra. The project is funded
through the corporate-social responsibility (CSR) commitments of a
leading finance company and will be facilitated by Samhita Social
Ventures.
Through its subsidiary Clearford India Pvt. Ltd., Clearford will
deliver an end-to-end sanitation solution, including refurbishing
the school toilets and building bathroom facilities for all 86
households of the village. The project includes large scale
behavior change and treatment of all black as well as gray water.
The Clearford One system will improve public health and the
quality of life for residents of Plot Pada with a permanent and
locally sustainable sanitation solution that protects local water
resources. The total project is valued at 13,950,000 INR
(approximately $270,000 CAD).
The Company's first sanitation project in 2016 for 56 homes at
Jambudiyapura village, became the first Total Sanitation Open
Defecation Free (ODF) village in Gujarat. Installing the
Clearford One system decreased the incidence of diarrheal
illnesses in residents and enabled treated water reuse for local
agriculture. "Clearford One technology delivered under the CSR
model with dedicated partners is a proven effective approach
towards improving public health and managing local water resources
in rural India," said Kevin Loiselle, President and CEO of
Clearford.
"Clearford's persistence over the years at proving its unique
technology in the Indian market is translating to more and larger
village sanitation projects in a country where sustainable water,
sanitation and hygiene (WASH) models are increasingly being pursued
by governments, NGO's and corporate sponsors," he continued. "We
now have the recognition, strategic partnerships, and momentum to
roll out the Clearford model on a larger scale across India."
Clearford's activity in India
has grown in recent months, with construction of two other village
sanitation projects underway in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu States
(previously announced on December 20, 2018), and signing of a
fifth project contract for sanitary servicing at an industrial
facility—this latest at the Mahindra Vehicles Manufacturing Ltd.
plant in Pune, Maharashtra,
scheduled for completion by the end of May
2019.
