Stability Agreements for Monterrico's subsidiary companies in Peru now signed
LONDON: 24 August 2007: Further to the announcement made on 8th August,
Monterrico is pleased to announce that the Government of Peru, by way of its
investment promotion agency, ProInversion, and the Ministry of Energy and Mines,
has now signed the two Stability Agreements with Monterrico's subsidiary
companies: Rio Blanco Copper Limited and Minera Majaz S.A.
These Stability Agreements provide important guarantees to Monterrico by
providing formal registration of the Company's investment in Peru. They will
also guarantee that the tax and labour regimes existing at the time of execution
of the agreements will remain unchanged during their 10 year term. The other
main benefits include the free transferability of foreign currency, non
discrimination regarding exchange rates, and free trade of mineral products.
Mr. Richard Ralph, Non-Executive Chairman, said "As I remarked in our earlier
announcement on this subject, the signing of these stability agreements provides
a welcome level of comfort both to the Company and to our shareholders. It is
also significant as a demonstration of the Peruvian Government's confidence in
the future of what is potentially one of the most important mine projects in the
country".
