Starting your portfolio

Overview
Portfolio allows you to record your trading activity. It gives you a realistic interpretation of your trading performance including adjustments for trading costs against 15min delayed prices.

(Because the prices are 15min delayed you should not use portfolio to follow share prices. If you wish to see streaming real-time stock lists use monitor.)

Portfolio is not a portal to a broker. Adding a buy is merely an entrance in a data base it will not mean that you have actually committed yourself to buy or sell anything. This means you can set up fantasy portfolios and test out your trading theories systematically.

The first screen you will see on entering the portfolio sections is 'All Portfolios'

'All Portfolios'
Advfn allows you to make multiple portfolios, which you can see and access via "All portfolios". 'All Portfolios' also displays a synopsis of your different portfolios performances.
Similar to 'open file' & 'save screens' in windows you can open existing portfolios listed here (by clicking on portfolio's name in the display table) or create new portfolios.

For a full breakdown of the 'All Portfolios' table parameters (click here)

NB: You must have first create your portfolio from this screen.

  • Creating a new portfolio
On the bottom right of the screen there is a text entry field labelled "New Portfolio", type in the name you wish to call your new portfolio here, then click the add button or press return.

Your newly created portfolio will appear as a row in the "All portfolios" table.

All the parameters values in your new portfolio will register '0'.
As you trade this table will give you an overview of each of your portfolios.
You can delete portfolios completely. From the 'All Portfolios' screen but there is no undo for this command.
  • Removing portfolios
The last column in the 'All Portfolios' table is labelled "R" each portfolio has a tick box in this "R" column. If you tick the box then click the remove button in the bottom left of the screen you will remove that portfolio entirely from our data base.

Click on the name of your newly created portfolio.
