/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sharps Compliance Corp. (OTC:SCOM)
(BULLETIN BOARD: SCOM) ("Sharps"), a leading provider of
cost-effective medical waste disposal solutions for industry and
consumers, today announced that the Company's flagship product, the
Sharps Disposal By Mail System(R), is being utilized by three of
the four largest retail health clinic operators in the country to
facilitate the effective, efficient and proper disposal of used
syringes. The Company has contracts with two of the three customers
and sells through a distributor to the third. Currently, there are
approximately 450 to 500 non-emergency clinics across the country
located in the retail setting, such as pharmacies, grocery store
chains and mass merchandisers. The Company estimates that its
Sharps Disposal By Mail System(R) products are used by approximated
70% of these clinics. According to Drug Store News, a publication
following news and trends in the convenient care business, the
total number of retail clinics could increase to as many as 2,000
by the end of calendar year 2007 and as many as 10,000 by 2010. Dr.
Burton J. Kunik, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of
Sharps Compliance Corp. commented, "The explosion of retail health
clinics is changing the delivery of healthcare across the country.
We believe the Sharps Disposal By Mail System(R) is ideal for small
quantity generators of medical waste, such as these in-store
clinics. Our products facilitate the convenient, efficient and
proven disposal of used syringes while providing, what we believe
to be, a much more cost effective solution than the traditional
pick-up service." Kunik added, "We are leveraging our established
relationships with major nationwide pharmacy and grocery store
chains, where we have successfully facilitated the disposal of used
syringes during the flu shot season for a number of years, to
demonstrate the value of our products and services for the
expanding retail health clinic opportunity." The Company's flagship
product, the Sharps Disposal by Mail System(R), is a cost-effective
and easy-to-use solution to dispose of medical waste such as
hypodermic needles, lancets and any other medical device or objects
used to puncture or lacerate the skin (referred to as "sharps").
