X-3100 Node Integral Part of the Ambient Smart Grid(R) Platform
BOSTON, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ambient Corporation (OTC
Bulletin Board: ABTG) today announced the newest version of its
X-series smart grid node, the X-3100. The Ambient® X-3100 smart
grid node allows electric utilities to quickly and efficiently
deploy a two-way data communications network designed to connect to
all devices and applications on the smart grid. (Logo:

X-3100, already purchased and deployed in the field, is the next
step in delivering the critical communications capability for
monitoring, and sensing technologies vital for utilities to enable
the power grid to see, locate and help manage the demands of the
smart grid," stated John J. Joyce, President and CEO of Ambient
Corporation. "The upgradable X-3100 offers the speed and bandwidth
for present and future smart grid needs, bringing the technology of
yesterday into today's smart grid, while enabling the technology of
tomorrow." . The new X-3100 is the latest model of Ambient's
X-series node, first deployed by utilities in 2002. Utilities can
now ramp up their smart grid programs by deploying smart grid
assets at strategic locations, connecting current and future smart
grid devices without an upfront investment in a full build-out. The
X-3100's open standards and IP-based technology provides a
communications platform, via both wired and wireless technologies,
and can integrate with any IP-based smart grid devices, regardless
of manufacturer or communication protocol. Key features of the
X-3100 include: -- Industry's only smart grid device that
internally incorporates all the required protocols and technologies
to connect to any smart grid application -- Proven, field ready and
already deployed device -- Connects all smart grid devices,
including smart meters, and applications under one uniform
communications platform - regardless of manufacturer -- Has speed
and bandwidth for today and tomorrow's smart grid -- Incorporating
the Ambient EDC module, provides a migration path from legacy
systems to smart metering -- Uses standard GPS technology to
provide precision location information -- Only commercially
deployed node certified by Verizon Wireless As the X-3100
interfaces with standard GPS technology to provide precision
location information, it can assist utilities in pinpointing line
condition or outage problems. As with its predecessor models, the
X-3100 can be managed with Ambient's network management system,
AmbientNMS®, or with any SNMP-based system the utility chooses to
use. The X-3100 also supports value-added applications such as the
energy sensing and reporting capability developed by Ambient and
supports third-party metering and sensoring applications. Ambient's
smart grid nodes allow utilities to build private and secure
communications networks, based on open standards, that can both
integrate legacy utility systems and support the future
requirements of the evolving smart grid. Such an option is required
by the growing applications and needs within the utility market.
The X-3100 is certified for use on Verizon Wireless' network and
has the ability to run on other provider's networks. About Ambient
