AppDynamics, a Cisco company and the leader in application
intelligence, celebrates Carhartt, America’s premium workwear brand
since 1889, as a recipient of the 2018 CIO 100 Awards announced
today by IDG’s CIO. The 31st annual award program recognizes
organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of
operational and strategic excellence in information technology.
Carhartt was founded in Detroit in 1889 with two sewing machines
and five employees. Since then, it has grown into a global fashion
and workwear brand with its culture of “outworking them all.”
However, the emergence of the digital age introduced an entirely
new challenge to Carhartt’s business. Carhartt realized that in
order to reach an expanding consumer base and remain competitive,
it would need to transform its business strategy by implementing a
vibrant online sales platform.
Carhartt CIO John Hill realized that in order for the company’s
digital transformation to be successful, it would need an effective
strategy to align and support both the business and IT teams.
Hill’s team deployed AppDynamics’ Application Performance
Monitoring and Business iQ to provide a vehicle for business and IT
teams to collaborate with the backing of real-time business and IT
system metrics. The recognition by CIO as a winner of the 2018 CIO
100 Awards places Carhartt among the most innovative IT leaders for
its digital transformation success.
“Retailers live and die by the consumer experience, whether that
experience comes in person, through mobile or on the web,” said
John Hill, CIO, Carhartt. “It was imperative to understand how to
position our business for the evolving consumer needs of today and
in the future. With Business iQ, we now have a direct lens into the
health of business transactions across our entire digital shopping
journey in real time, so we can continue to deliver the highest
quality user experience to our consumers.”
Carhartt implemented AppDynamics’ Business iQ ahead of the
holiday season for real-time application and business performance
monitoring during the most crucial time of the year for retailers.
Business iQ gave visibility into orders as they came in and how the
company infrastructure supported those orders. This allowed both
Carhartt business and IT leaders to see how the technology’s
performance impacted business performance in real time, as well as
measure the effectiveness of the company’s advertising campaigns.
With this visibility, the IT team could resolve any issues in the
processing system that may have had a direct impact on the day’s
revenue without any interruption to the consumer’s experience. By
the end of Cyber Monday, Carhartt had achieved a single-day record
for sales. Since then, the complete transparency across Carhartt’s
digital ecosystem has given both IT and business teams the tools
and processes necessary to drive business metrics with strategic IT
initiatives.
“Today’s consumer has high expectations for a seamless digital
experience that is changing how companies think about their
business and IT strategies,” said Prathap Dendi, general manager of
Business iQ, AppDynamics. “Business leaders and IT need a common
language and single lens on application performance and real-time
business performance in order to drive strategic business outcomes.
Progressive CIOs like John are leading their companies through
exciting change in their industries.”
Carhartt will be recognized at the CIO 100 Symposium and Awards
Ceremony on August 15 at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos
Verdes, California. Until then, learn more about the company’s
