Citigroup Inc. said it plans to offer 6,000 jobs for young
people in Asia over the next three years as the region's
unemployment intensifies amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The U.S. bank will also launch 60,000 skill-training
opportunities during the period, it said in a statement Friday.
The bank's Asia-Pacific branch, as well as Citi Foundation, its
philanthropy fund focused on investments that promote economic
progress, has committed $35 million to improve employment and
opportunities for young people from low-income, underserved
communities in Asia by 2023.
The job and skill-training opportunities will span Citi's
Asia-Pacific retail and institutional businesses, it said.
"Communities in Asia-Pacific are facing a youth unemployment
crisis due to the impact of Covid-19," said Peter Babej, Citi's
Asia-Pacific CEO.
