Totally Green, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: TLGN), a
pioneer in organic food processing systems and compostable
packaging alternatives, has installed its revolutionary ORCA Green
Machine™ in the main kitchen at the University Hospital - St. Paul
of the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center.
The University Hospital - St. Paul purchased the ORCA Green
Machine to establish an on-site rapid food composting solution for
its rapidly growing employee and patient base. The hospital
currently serves more than 2,300 meals per day between its patient
room service and main dining facility.
According to Roger Hanson, director of Nutrition Services at UT
Southwestern Medical Center: "As one of the country's leading
academic medical centers, patient-care providers and research
institutions, we have a responsibility to reduce our carbon
footprint by finding alternative methods to dispose of our rapidly
growing stream of organic refuse. By using Totally Green's ORCA
Green Machine in our main kitchen to process organic waste, we are
reducing the amount of refuse going to landfills and harmful
refuse-produced methane gas in the environment."
UT Southwestern operates UT Southwestern University Hospital and
six clinic facilities on the campus, offering comprehensive
diagnostic services and therapies for citizens of the DFW Metroplex
and around the world. Faculty and residents provide care to nearly
100,000 hospitalized patients and oversee 1.9 million outpatient
visits a year. UT Southwestern has approximately 11,000 employees
and an operating budget of more than $1.42 billion.
"This installation demonstrates another market where the ORCA
Green Machine can provide tremendous cost savings and environmental
benefits to a large organization, like UT Southwestern Medical
Center," said Rob Phillips, president of Totally Green. Rob also
stated: "We expect this entry into the University Hospital - St.
Paul's main kitchen to serve as a spring board into the
Southwestern Medical District and its cafeterias that we estimate
serve more than 50,000 employees and patients daily."
The UT Southwestern University Hospital - St. Paul is part of
the Southwestern Medical District, which includes a 387-acre
medical complex that employs a workforce of nearly 24,500 people.
The district's medical facilities attract more than 2.3 million
patient visits a year to its clinics and hospitals.
