SFR, the French mobile telephone operator owned by French entertainment-to-telecom conglomerate Vivendi SA (VIV.FR), said Friday it will start to offer 4G mobile broadband services starting early 2013.

The company is currently setting up the 4G network, which allows high-speed internet access, in the cities of Lyon and Montpellier, SFR said in a statement on its website.

SFR, as well as competitor Bouygues Telecom, owned by conglomerate Bouygues (EN.FR) and France Telecom SA (FTE.FR) were given 4G licenses in December.
