LONDON, May 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

It's hard to teach kids about money; how to save and why this is an essential life skill. By the age of 16 most kids have a phone, have been to a concert, are using public transport and go shopping with their friends; all these activities cost money! Soon, these kids will turn into adults and will need to start providing for themselves. So why not help that transition and start teaching your kids at a young age the value of saving?

In 2013 NatWest launched their Pigby and friends campaign which introduced their NatWest First Saver account and the charming Pigby and his delightful group of friends. The aim is to encourage parents and young children to start thinking about their saving potential and to open an account. Among the many features, the First Saver account offers 1.00% AER/Gross p.a. (variable) interest and provides regular saving tips throughout the lifespan of the account holder. It is only available to under-16s.

In addition, NatWest have introduced a mobile and tablet app which makes saving fun. The app prompts children to save further by setting targets that, once achieved, will unlock new stalls and games to play. What better way to get your children involved than to let them play at the Pigby Fair? There are no hidden costs; the app is free to download and there is no in-app purchasing which means it will not cost your app store account a penny.

The app includes NatWest's new Pigby and Friends animated characters. To start with, you choose your profile, a girl or boy piglet who then runs the ice cream store at the fair. By selling ice cream, the user is taught the value of income and, with the guidance of the app, the user can save or spend their earnings at the fair.

The app is also programmed to deposit the little piglets' earnings every 5 minutes at the Pigby Bank. Pigby's friends, who run the other stores, share how much they have saved and what their saving goal is.
