Redback Networks Inc. (NASDAQ:RBAK), a leading provider of
next-generation broadband networking systems, today announced that
Unwired (ASX:UNW), Australia's largest wireless broadband provider,
has chosen Redback's SmartEdge(R) Multi-Service Edge Routers to
power its wireless broadband business and consumer services.
Unwired plans to expand the capacity of its wireless broadband
network and improve the network's reliability by leveraging the
MPLS routing and subscriber management capabilities of the
SmartEdge routers. "With the SmartEdge routers, we are acquiring
significant routing capabilities while increasing service
capabilities and subscriber control," said Eric Hamilton, chief
technical officer at Unwired. "The combination of routing and
subscriber management should enable us to provide better network
control as well as provide value added services to reduce the time
to market for future mobile broadband services." Unwired is one of
the most innovative service providers in Australia and holds
spectrum licences to cover approximately 65% of the Australian
population across major population centres. The company was awarded
Carrier of the Year in 2005 by the Australian Telecommunications
User Group (ATUG), Australia's most prestigious telecommunications
award. "The SmartEdge family was purpose-built for next generation
service providers and has been deployed in some of the most
demanding broadband networks around the world," said Simon
Williams, vice president of sales and field operations for the Asia
Pacific region at Redback Networks. "We are extremely pleased to be
working with an innovative service provider, such as Unwired, to
bring wireless broadband services to Australian consumers and
businesses." About Unwired Unwired is an Australian-owned ASX
listed (ASX:UNW) wireless broadband carrier. It currently services
residential, small office/home office and small to medium
