Humana Renames LifeSynch Subsidiary as Humana Behavioral Health to Highlight Integrated Medical-Behavioral Approach

As part of its ongoing efforts to support its members in their
health journeys, Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) announced that LifeSynch,
the administrator of mental health benefits for Humana members, is
now Humana Behavioral Health.
Humana Behavioral Health, formally known as LifeSynch, will
remain an affiliated company and subsidiary of Humana Inc., and
will continue to manage the behavioral health benefits and provider
network on behalf of Humana.
“The Humana Behavioral Health name reflects our ongoing
commitment to integrated physical and mental health and the
continued evolution of Humana’s integrated care delivery model,”
said Gregory Bayer, Ph.D., Vice President, Humana Behavioral
Health. “Improving a person’s health rests not only in the clinical
aspects, but also in the health behavior aspects such as managing
stress and work/life balance. We feel that Humana Behavioral Health
is strategically positioned to help our members do so through our
holistic approach that addresses the mind and body.”
Humana Behavior Health will continue to provide an extensive
array of health behavior resources, including behavioral health
care, primary care consultation, integrated medical-behavioral
programming, behavioral pharmacy services, health coaches,
telepsychiatry and web-based wellness tools for brain health. There
will be no changes to benefit plans or contact information as a
result of the name change.
Earlier this year, Humana announced its bold goal: The
communities we serve will be 20 percent healthier by 2020 because
we make it easy for people to achieve their best health. Humana is
measuring the bold goal through the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) instrument known as “Healthy Days.” The
measurement includes four questions, two of which ask about
physical and mental health over the previous 30 days. The responses
are used to determine the number of unhealthy days a person has in
a month.
“It’s no secret that behavioral health includes helping people
find ways to alter their behavior to support healthier habits,”
said Larry Weinstein, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, Humana
Behavioral Health. “Humana’s bold goal illustrates that health is
not just limited to the physical aspects. We’re proud to support
our members who are looking to change behaviors that are
detrimental to their health.”
Humana members and providers are being notified of the name
change to avoid confusion and should expect uninterrupted, high
quality service and a focused, holistic approach to integrated
medical and behavioral health care throughout the transition.
LifeSynch has been a part of Humana since 2005, when Humana
acquired what was then known as CorpHealth. The organization
has more than 20 years of positive outcomes for
employers, health plans and insurers, and currently serves over
five million Humana members.
