REGENT INNS PLC ("the Company")

Notification of major interests in shares

The Company received notification today from Insinger de Beaufort Trust (Jersey)
Limited as the trustees of the Regent Inns plc Employee Share Trust ("the
Trust") informing it that on 27 June 2003 they purchased 125,000 ordinary shares
at 70p per share. The Trust holds 375,000 shares representing 0.41% of the
issued ordinary share capital of the company.

The shares have been purchased to satisfy option awards under the Company's
Restricted Share Scheme for certain employees and directors.
