MONTREAL, Dec. 9, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - SNC-Lavalin (TSX:
SNC) announced today that it has joined the United Nations Global
Compact (UNGC), the largest corporate social initiative in the
world with more than 9,000 business and non-business participants
in more than 130 countries.
In addition to setting out a single global standard that
transcends national, sectoral and regional standards, the UNGC
promotes a sustainable approach to business and encourages
companies in increasingly globalized markets to make universal
principles and values an integral part of their strategies and
actions. By joining the UNGC, SNC-Lavalin underscores its
commitment to putting its extensive know-how and resources to work
to meet the world's sustainability challenges.
"We are committed to make the Global Compact and its principles
part of the strategy, culture and day-to-day operations of our
company, and to engage in collaborative projects that promote the
broader development goals of the United Nations," said Neil Bruce, President and Chief Executive
Officer, SNC-Lavalin.
Companies that join the UNGC must align their strategies and
operations with Ten Principles on human rights, labour, environment
and anti-corruption. A key requirement for participation in the
Global Compact is the annual submission of a Communication on
Progress (COP) that describes the company's efforts to implement
these ten principles.
SNC-Lavalin supports public accountability and transparency, and
therefore commits to report on progress within one year of joining
the UNGC, and annually thereafter according to the Global Compact
COP policy. In announcing adherence to these human rights, labour,
environmental and anti-corruption principles, the company
establishes a set of standards that can be used by others to
monitor its conduct.
SNC-Lavalin's membership in the UNGC demonstrates the company's
continued commitment to world-class social and ethical standards
and is aligned with the company's goal to become the world's most
relied-upon engineering and construction firm to safely,
efficiently and ethically deliver outstanding performance for our
clients.
