Further joint cautionary announcement

Further to the cautionary announcements issued by AAC and Minorco on Monday 12
October 1998, the attention of shareholders in the two companies is directed
to the major announcement today concerning the proposed restructuring of AAC
and the combination with Minorco to form Anglo American plc.

Given that there are certain contemplated transactions to which reference is
made in that announcement, but for which transaction terms have yet to be
determined, it has not been possible to show the financial effects of the
proposals on shareholders. Accordingly, shareholders in AAC and Minorco are
advised to continue to exercise caution when considering dealing in their
shares until such time as further information becomes available.
