FirstEnergy Employees Donate More Than Two Million Meals During 2009 Harvest For Hunger Campaign

AKRON, Ohio, April 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- From meatball
sandwiches to bake sales to donations of canned goods and cash,
FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) employees gave nearly $300,000, the
equivalent of more than 2 million meals, during the company's March
2009 Harvest for Hunger campaign. This is the equivalent of 143
meals for each of the company's 14,000 employees. "When the economy
was down and the need was greatest, our employees put forth an
outstanding effort to feed the hungry in our communities," said
Anthony J. Alexander, President and Chief Executive Officer of
FirstEnergy. "Once again, they have shown their compassion and
generosity, exceeding our goals for this year's Harvest for Hunger
campaign." FirstEnergy conducted a friendly competition among its
business groups, hosting bake sales and book fairs, selling lunches
and staging a "FirstEnergy Idol" contest, among other activities
during the March campaign. Including this year's campaign, the
company's total contributions since 2001 reached $1.83 million
dollars, which represents the equivalent of more than 13.7 million
