Global Technologies Group, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: GTGP) reports results
of the last meeting held at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) on
September 12, which discussed the MBS technology for use at the Y12
complex. Present at the meeting were James Fallacaro, Global
Technologies Group, Inc., Martin Matushek, M2 Polymer and J.
Bickford, MSE Technology Applications, Inc. Those attending the
meeting were representatives from the US Department of Energy
(DOE), 6 members of (UCOR/URS_CH2M Oak Ridge LLC) CDM-Smith,
B&W Y12 (the general contractor for the Y12 site) and Strata-G
a subcontractor to UCOR. All of the major stakeholders in the Y12
Mercury soils project were present.
The meeting covered the past case studies showing the successful
use of MBS™ at numerous environmental sites for most RCRA heavy
metals, including Mercury. Also covered in the presentation was
data from 2004 showing the successful use of MBS in Mercury
contaminated soil from the Y12 site itself. The soil samples had
been provided and the report commissioned by the US DOE. The
presentation also covered testing by MSE for the new combination of
MBS and M2 Polymer's Waste Lock® super absorbent polymers thereby
offering a simultaneous solidification and metals binding
technology. The presentation concluded with studies done by MSE for
Mercury and Uranium in soils using MBS as well as additional
studies done by MSE for Mercury in stack gasses for power plants
and cement plants using the MBS technology. The meeting was led by
Martin Matushek and J. Bickford for the technical presentation and
then opened up for technical discussion at the conclusion.
The results of this meeting led to an October email to Global by
UCOR for a cost estimate to handle 300 tons of the soils
contaminated by Mercury at Y12. We proceeded to compile and send to
them the pricing and timeline for that project. Within a few weeks
after their review, we were contacted again in November and asked
to do a full analysis for capital costs for a waste processing
system to be installed at the CERCLA landfill adjacent to Y12 and a
price per ton for treatment using MBS for 100 tons per day for a
period of five years. Martin Matushek, J. Bickford and James
Fallacaro worked on that cost analysis and sent UCOR the total
capital cost estimates and waste processing cost estimates (per
ton) for that project. We are currently awaiting the decision of
B&W Y12, the prime contractor, for the use of the MBS
technology for the projects.
