Saras SpA (SRS.MI) Tuesday said three workers died as a consequence of an accident at its Sardinian refinery earlier in the day.

The three workers died at a unit of the refinery that was idle for scheduled maintenance activities, the company, Italy's second-largest independent refinery by capacity, said in a statement.

According to press reports the three workers of an external company carrying out maintenance work at the Sarroch facility died as a result of toxic gases.
